Whenever we talk about Hindi film music, the first name which comes to our mind is Lata Mangeshkar. One of the best singers of the Hindi film industry and appreciated all over India, she has a unique record in her name. She is the most recorded artist in the Guinness Book of World Records. According to a rough estimate, she has sung more than 30,000 solo and duet songs in astonishing 20 different languages from 1948 to 1987. A real gem of a record.


Fondly known as nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar was born on 28th September, 1929 in Indore (M.P). She had inherited musical genes from her father Dinanath Mangeshkar who was an acclaimed classical singer. Introduced to music at a very young age, Lata Mangeshkar truly rules the hearts of Indian music lovers.


Her father passed away when she was still very young. Therafter, she took the responsibility of her young siblings on her fragile shoulders. She began her journey by acting in few movies during 1942 to 1948. She acted in 8 films. Her tryst with singing immortality began with a Marathi film named Kiti Hasaal (1942). This film saw arrival of Lata Mangeshkar, the singer. Hindi movie, ‘Aap ke Sewa Main (1947)’ witnessed her debut in Hindi film industry. She took quite some time to establish herself and her melodious voice in film industry because of dominance of other established singers like, Noor Jehan, Shamshad Begum and Zohrabai Ambalewali etc.
